The attractive fishing village of Lochinver has shops, a post office, restaurants, pubs and churches, so you can find most of the things you need - even an ATM, or a filling station! The Assynt area is unsurpassed for those interested in wildlife, scenery, fishing and hillwalking. It contains some of the most interesting geology, and the oldest rocks, in the world. Boat trips, some offering sea angling, are available locally, and magnificent sandy beaches are within a few miles. Countless lochs, streams and rivers offer wonderful sport for the fisherman.
From Strathcraig you will find a variety of scenic walks and drives offering stupendous views of the indented, island-studded coast against the backdrop of the dramatic peaks of Assynt and Coigach - mountains like Canisp, Quinag, Stac Polly and the incomparable Suilven. Wildlife is present in plenty, and even if you never leave the area of the house you are quite likely to spot buzzards, the occasional eagle, many seabirds, seals and red deer - in fact, if you get up early enough in the morning, especially in the colder months, you might find deer in the garden....... Strathcraig is only two miles from the Inverpolly Nature Reserve, within the protection of which some of Scotland's rarest wildlife thrives, including red squirrel and pine marten.
After a day spent exploring, the sound of the waves breaking on the rocky beach below the house can be very soporific!
